Commentary on SB 108 -- Transfer of Auto
Titles and Mobile Home Titles by Survivorship

SB 108, authored by Senator Truan, would amend Section 501.031, Transportation Code, and Section 19(a)(2), Texas Manufactured Housing Standards Act (Article 5221f, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), to permit any two persons -- not just a husband and wife -- to registered their automobile title or mobile home title as joint tenants with right of survivorship.  Currently these statutes limit this registration method to husband and wife.

An automobile or mobile home may be covered by a survivorship agreement under the Probate Code, I suppose, but that would do little good if the title transfer was not recognized by the transportation department upon death of one of the joint tenants.   [02/03/99]
